Young men have more need for suits now than when I was in high school. Or so it seems.

My son has been in two weddings, has a tux for symphony band, and at least one suit and a couple of jackets for things like homecoming and church. And he’s not even 16.

So when he got his prom tux this weekend, I couldn’t help but compare it to one of his first suits. Made for Easter in the early ’90s, it served to dress up two little boys. If it doesn’t look worn it’s because they only wore it for a short time. Like one hour. Total.

Then it was back to rough and tumble Oshkosh overalls, Ts and velcro tennies. But for that one hour (or so), they looked like the little gentlemen my Grandma would be proud of, in outfits made on my Mom’s trusty Singer sewing machine.
