This summer is slipping by so quickly…wasn’t it just June 1?

One of my personal summer goals is to design and complete a new canvas wall gallery in my home. The problem? I want the images to feature my family. And our schedules keep us running in opposite directions.

Summer jobs and trips have made it nearly impossible to have everyone here at the same time, much less scrubbed, dressed and ready to be photographed. (Heck, I’d shoot ’em dirty if they’d agree to stand still!)

That said, we ARE making it a point to take time out of our day so that I can capture my boys, my husband, and even some of us all together. (I guess Parker will have to take that one.)

It’s important. It’s important to stop time — just for a minute — and remember what everyone looked like in the summer of 2011.

It’s important because, even though we think we’ll look better in a different outfit, or with a different hair style, or after six months of exercise, we’ll never have this day again.

When I photograph my seniors, I *almost* always take an image with the senior and parent. The adults always (ALWAYS) protest. But in the end, when that photograph appears in the video, or the slideshow, they’re glad they did it. Because that was the day they watched their child being photographed as a senior in high school.

It’s a Big Deal.

This was the boy or girl who wore Velcro tennies and sat in a booster seat. And as we all know, the senior year, the year of “lasts” (last Homecoming…last spring concert…last track meet…) flies by in the wink of an eye.

I think of other families that I’ve photographed…How tall the boys have gotten. How the girls grew so fast you just could couldn’t believe it. The best professional images can sometimes be the most casual. Nothing fancy. Just favorite summer clothes. Warm smiles. Whispers between little ones and mom and dad. Giggles and sandals and smiles.

In honor of documenting families in the summer of 2011, I am offering Summertime Snaps, quick (and painless) informal family sessions in beautiful Lake Delton.
