I’ve been shooting athletes for more years than I care to admit.

Chasing the boys and girls cross country teams for eight years, shooting my brother competing at IM Wisconsin (twice), capturing my own boys during their triathlon days, and shooting high school sports for Capital Newspapers has given me a lot of experience. It’s something I never grow tired of doing. It’s right up there with being a senior photographer!

So when I was hired to shoot the Lighthouse Run in Racine, Wisconsin yesterday, I jumped at the chance to spend the day away from my computer and my Baraboo photography studio. (Thanks, Carl!)

Three shooters, 4,000 runners. Near-perfect conditions and lots of smiling faces. The elites were, well, elite. The moderate runners had worked very hard to complete their own race (2-, 4- or 10-mile courses). So I was able to capture the satisfaction, the determination — and a little bit of angst. (Nothing that a little piece of kringle can’t fix…)

Congratulations to all of the athletes!
